Last Sunday, the Lord woke me up at 4am. After spending some quiet time with Him, I stepped out of bed at exactly 5:30 am. Being a Sunday, there’s usually a lot on my plate. Then suddenly, I remembered that there was supposed to be a video shoot in my house that day—something that had completely slipped my mind.
As I prepared my cup of coffee, the Holy Spirit nudged me to pick up my Bible and spend more time with Him. I could sense the Lord was longing for my undivided attention. So, I opened my Bible and asked the Holy Spirit what He desired to teach me. He led me to Joshua 5. I began reading quietly, but soon felt prompted to read aloud.
This chapter speaks of Joshua circumcising an entire new generation of Israel with flint knives. I paused and asked, “Lord, weren’t the male children supposed to be circumcised on the eighth day?” The Holy Spirit delights when we ask Him questions. It became a moment of fellowship between us. He then led me to Numbers 9, particularly verses 15–23, and impressed on me that this was the reason they had not been circumcised in the wilderness. (Take time to read it for yourself.)
Why am I sharing this?
Because the Lord longs for our fellowship—personal, private conversations with Him. Yet, in today’s world, we are living in constant distraction, even in spiritual matters.
Instead of seeking Him for ourselves, we often turn to YouTube or other platforms to listen to someone else’s revelation, while neglecting our own intentional time with God. He desires to give us our own REVELATION of Him!
Just the other day, my son and I went out for lunch. As is our habit, we placed our phones on silent and faced them down. A meal is meant for fellowship (I actually shared this in Bible study from John 13).
The people you choose to dine with are people you value, and fellowship requires your full attention.
The same applies when spending time with the Lord. He is the Bread of Life from heaven, the Living Water—if we drink of Him, we will never thirst again. Just as the people you decide to eat with should be people you hold in high regard and share fellowship with, giving them undivided attention. So it is with the Lord: desire to spend time in private with Him, and allow Him to fill you with Himself.
